The Citadelle Plaza Replaces Meteor Showers with Lighting and Rain Showers

Now, this won't be the first time I have been called 'Polly Anna' before in my life, but if we can't have a beautiful evening event to showcase the Perseid Meteor Shower at least we can provide the community of Glendale with a much needed rain shower! Isn't it just like Mother Nature to select the one event that needs clear skies to be perfect, and give us rain and one amazing electrical storm to boot?!

Around 8:30 PM, the most amazing R&B band I've heard in a decade, called Soul Power, started to play. I looked up and right behind them (about 5 miles away) was the largest strikes of lighting bolting towards out party at the Citadelle Plaza, on the night of August 12th.

The Meteor Shower Party event started around 6 PM without a hint of trouble. About 400 children picked up their space passports and began visiting the seven space stations provided by the AZ Challenger Center (located in Peoria). We had a demonstration stage for liquid nitrogen, one for dry ice and comets, a station for our younger kids to make comets and exploding Alka Seltzer rockets and the galaxy shop to purchase some yummy space ice cream or blow-up aliens!

One of the favorite stations was the picture taking station with outfits and props from the Challenger Center. Go here to see the adorable kids ( and family) pictures. I have to say that the kids who attended this special event were all so cute!

Okay, I have to show you at least a couple pictures in this post, right?:

Aren't they adorable?

We also had the ASU Touchable Meteorite display at one space station and the legendary Tony LaConte brought several high-powered telescopes for guests to see Jupiter and the stars above, at least until the storm hit! As the gigantic rain drops began to hit the pavement, everyone ran into Sangria Luxe Lounge, Corbins bar & grill or Tutti Santi's ristorante (to enjoy dancing and dining inside under cover) as fast as their legs could move. Tony and his crew were busy getting these very expensive telescopes into their vehicles and we were busy moving the rental items under cover, too.

Just before the rains came, our new tenant Blissful Yoga (coming September 1st) did a nice yoga demonstration. We are all really forward to taking classes with Rosa and her staff!

I would have liked to be able to lay on the air mattresses under the stars and watched a fantastic meteor shower while listening to the sweet sounds of the Motown band, but this was not the grand plan this year. Our glasses that lit up and sparkled will just have to wait to be used at another great event at the Citadelle Plaza. Maybe next year???

A special thanks to all those in the community who came out under threatening skies, to the amazing staff at the AZ Challenger Center and especially to our evening sponsor the two Mark Taylor communities located just to the south and north of the Citadalle Plaza. If you have not yet visited these communities, head over and ask for Karen or Kaycee. Both apartment communities offer the best amenities, great floor layouts and well-kept grounds for their 0ne-, tow and three-bedrooms places. We are glad to be their neighbors.

Shopping Spree Winner's a Doll

Let's face it, giving away a $500 shopping Spree to be used anyway a person would like at any of the stores in the Citadelle Plaza is not a hard task! It's a fun part of the job for sure. And having partners like MidFirst Bank is also a very pleasant experience. They provided this shopping spree drawing as well as the ATM machine at the Twilight Farmers Markets this summer. But what made this drawing so delightful was meeting our winner, Nicole at Next Coffee this week.

(That's her on the left)

Nicole Pease came up and introduced herself. She told us a funny story about her husband who said, "you won $50 bucks, that's great, we can go get a pizza!" She said, "no, they said $500!" Now that could be a lot of pizza! But Nicole is expecting a child soon, so we were thinking more about a pampering massage or a personal training session at Oasis or how about a some new earrings from AMG jewelry and design? So many possibilities................

Good luck with your new addition to the family, Nicole, and thank you for attending so many of our Twilight Farmers Markets and making the Citadelle Plaza your family's favorite gathering spot for dining and shopping in Glendale!
